Why Small Business Owners Should NOT Use WordPress

Over the 10 years I’ve been doing marketing when I would be asked, how should I start a website for my business? I would say WordPress.

But not anymore. Because what happens is that a business owner gets a website, the developer hands it over, and then leaves. Now the business owner is unable to make changes because they are scared they will break the website. Which is possible.

Yes, WordPress is a great CMS (Content Management System) and Yes, you can login and make edits to pages pretty easily. But here’s what they don’t tell you.

WordPress has constant updates to improve performance and security. You must maintain the site up to date. As well as you need to keep all the Plugins up to date as they also receive performance and security updates.

From time to time when you make these updates it can break the website. Causing it to not look the same or function the same. It just causes issues.

These issues can only be solved by someone that understands code and is able to see what broke and knows how to fix it. You’ll need a developer.

Then there is Hosting. The website must be hosted on a server and that server must be able to support WordPress and its requirements.

And, let’s not forget about Security. You’ll also be responsible for security. Meaning if someone hacks into your hosting account and sets up all your pages on your website to redirect to porn sites; you’ll have to figure out how they got in and fix everything.

Since I’ve experienced many of these or have seen these first hand I’m now advising small business owners to use a platform like WIX.

WIX and platforms like it, take care of all the backend hosting, security, and updates for you. Plus the website doesn’t just break and you need to get a developer to fix it.

It’s a drag and drop platforms that can easily be edited by anyone with your company.

As well as you can easily customize the mobile version.
