How to generate customer reviews

Reviews are extremely important for any business. Whether you’re selling a product or service, customers will look for your reviews. 

The hardest part is actually getting a customer to leave a review.

Below I’m going to outline the steps you should take to get more reviews plus I’m going to give you the exact script I send customers for reviews. 

The first thing is, make sure your customer is happy with what you provided them. Asking for a review from someone that isn’t happy could turn really ugly.

Ask the customer “what did you think of the service provided?”.  You can usually sense if they are truly happy. 

I good give away that they are happy with you is when they just say it. “Amazing work”, “It’s so easy to work with you”, “the final product is better than I thought”, etc….

As soon as you get positive feedback you tell the customer; “Thank you that means a ton to us. To help us out would you mind sharing your thoughts in a Google review?”.

They will likely say “Sure”. 

Now what you do now is important.

If you tell them, “Great, go to google and search for us and leave a review”; you will never get a review.

You need to give them the link to directly leave you a review.

Here’s how you get your Google review link:

Once you have that link you can send that to customers via text, email, or both. 

I would recommend using a link shortener like That long URL looks ugly.

Now we craft up our message to our customers.  Here’s one that I use and give to my clients that is very effective:

We appreciate the trust you place in us for your (SERVICE) and we value you as a (CUSTOMER/ PATIENT).

I would like to ask if you wouldn't mind leaving a review for (COMPANY NAME).  If for any reason you feel that you are unable to provide a 5-star review, please let me know so I can work with you to turn your experience with (COMPANY NAME) into a 5-star experience.  

Please leave a review on Google and if possible also on Facebook. (You can copy and paste it.)

It was our sincere pleasure to provide our service for you recently.  We hope that the service we provided for you met your expectations and that you would consider us again for future needs.  If you are dissatisfied for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact us so that we can discuss any issues you may have.  We value the trust you have placed in us and desire to build a long-term relationship with you.

We are a local business that depends on positive word-of-mouth for business and would greatly appreciate it if you would recommend our business to your friends and neighbors.  An easy way to do this is by adding brief comments to our listing on  Simply go HERE (<--- Link the words directly) and post your comments for others to read.

Thank you for choosing (NAME OF BUSINESS).

Finally, save the emails as templates and train your staff on asking how the service was.

If the client says “amazing”, “wonderful”, “the best”, etc… tell the customer “thank you so much, would you mind leaving us a review sharing your thoughts?”. 

They will say “not at all”.

Then tell them “Great, we’ll be emailing you shortly with the direct link. All you have to do is click on it and leave a review”.

Have the email ready to go and make sure to send it right away as people will then push it to a later time and you want to get them while they are still emotionally happy.

Those are steps you can take to help you generate more reviews for your business.
